Uncle's Tom Cabin
- · Uncle Tom's Cabin is an anti-slavery novel by American author Harriet Beecher Stowe.It was published in 1852
· Uncle Tom is a middle aged slave man who goes to live with St.Clare who shortly before he died, he offered to free tom
· He dies before this happens and Tom is sold to Simon Legree who is a cruel man. Legree begins to hate Tom when Tom refuses Legree's order to whip his fellow slave.
· Legree would beat Tom viciously. Uncle Tom almost succumbs to hopelessness, as his faith in God is tested by the hardships of the plantation.
· However, he has two visions which renews his resolve to remain a faithful Christian, even unto death.
Uncle Tom's Cabin was the best-selling novel of the 19th century. The theme of this story was the evil of slavery. One example that Harriet showed that slavery was evil was the separation of families. Once the North read Uncle Tom's Cabin, they wanted to end slavery. This would further divide the North and the South about the issue of slavery.

Civil War
- The cause of the civil war was the different views that the North and South had on slavery, tariffs, and state rights.
- The Civil war will start at Fort Sumner when General P.G.T. Beauregard opened fire on the Union garrison holding Fort Sumter
- The Norht advantage in the war was that they had a strong centralized government, naval power, and bigger population. The North disadvantage was that they lack military training, going into unknown territory, and going on the offensive.
- The South advantage in the war was that they have better generals, they were fighting on the defensive, and they had something to fight for. The South disadvantage of the war was that they had some factories, weak centralized government, and had a smaller population.
- The turning point in the war was the battle of Gettysburg and the battle of Vicksburg. In the Battle of Gattysburg, Lincoln would say his speech.
- Lee surrendered his Army of Northern Virginia on April 9, 1865, at the McLean House in the village of Appomattox Court House
Slavery was effectivly ended. While slavery was not officially outlawed until the passage of the 13th amendment, the slaves were set free upon the end of the war The nation was reunited and the southern states were not allowed to secede. Reconstruction began after the war to rebuild America.
